Jan. 22, 2021 - The ABQ BioPark is sad to announce the passing of longtime resident Azeo the snow leopard. At nearly 20 years old, Azeo was the oldest and one of the most prolific males in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) facilities.

As part of their recent extensive renovations, Twycross Zoo wished to create a new focal point to the zoos entrance. To this end they commissioned a new visitor centre comprising a café, bar, gift shop and two new exhibits, one displaying their world renowned collection of wading birds and the other a flagship enclosure displaying the brand new snow leopard collection. Base were involved in the design and installation of this snow leopard enclosure.

The snow leopard enclosure faces onto the new visitor centre and is formed from galvanized steel perimeter posts and tie rods, supported by stainless steel cables and netting, keeping the people of Leicestershire safe from the snow leopards, and vice versa.

Timmins police said it has not had to charge anyone based on complaints from neighbours about snow, but officers have had to investigate incidents of people uttering threats to their neighbours over snow disputes.

Team members will help save Snow Leopards by raising a minimum of US $500 each to help a local initiative mitigate human-snow leopard conflict in Nepal. We will travel with local conservationists as our guides and teachers. Local yak herders who support us will also give us unprecedented access to their culture and knowledge and introduce us to their families in villages along the way. And they are among the people who will benefit directly from the new grassroots efforts we are helping to create. Funds we raise will support compensation schemes for herders who lose their livestock to predation. We also provide important conservation tools like camera traps and high-tech lights that keep snow leopards away from livestock. Our support will help protect the snow leopard and also the culture of the people who share its habitat.

We trek up to 12 miles a day reaching altitudes as high as 14,000 feet. We stay in traditional village houses and camp with shepherds in beautiful high meadows close to glaciers. The rewards of our efforts are rare and unforgettable: moving through a mythical landscape; being immersed in the culture and daily life of Himalayan livestock herders; supporting crucial conservation work; and having the chance to see the secretive snow leopard in its stunning natural environment.

The City of Revere and The Revere Police Department make every effort to announce snow emergencies in a safe and timely manner. In the event of a snow emergency, a PARKING BAN will go into effect on the following streets:

This study was carried out in the Humla District, West Nepal during April - May 2007. The Snow Leopard Information Management System, SLIMS (second order survey technique) developed by International Snow Leopard Trust was used to determine the status of snow leopard in the area. Altogether, 13 transects (total length of 6.76 km) were laid down in the major two blocks of Humla. A total of 45 snow leopard's Signs (32 scrapes, 11 feces, 1 urine mark and 1 pugmark) were recorded. Fixed-point count from method was used for blue sheep survey from appropriate vantage points. Interviews were conducted to find out relevant information on livestock depredation patterns and locals perception towards snow leopard. Out of 12 households surveyed in the area, 60% of herders lost livestock due to snow leopards. A total of 16 animals were reportedly lost due to snow leopards in 2007. High retaliatory killing and poaching are the major threat to the species in the area. Therefore, long-run survival of the species seems uncertain in the area. Habitat disturbance and over grazing have disturbed the prey species and ultimate impact on snow leopard. More awareness and income generation programs are needed to make the locals aware about the role of predator in the ecosystem.
